Pharmacology

Broad spectrum bactericidal topical antibiotic corticosteroid combination.

Contraindications

Cat
  • Due to the risk of severe anaphylaxis and death, some feel triple antibiotic combination therapy is contraindicated in cats.

Adverse Effects

General
  • Hypersensitivity reactions are possible and thought to be related to neomycin allergy.
Cat
  • There are sporadic reports of anaphylaxis and death in cats associated with the use of triple antibiotic ophthalmic products that contain neomycin.

Comments

Antibiotic preparation with hydrocortisone is a relatively weak anti-inflammatory product.
Antibiotic preparation with dexamethasone is a more potent anti-inflammatory product and
is used in more severe cases of inflammation.
